idk why it's saying we recommend this BUT WE DO NOT RECOMMEND CHELSEA'S PET RESORT! We’ve trusted them with our two cats in the past. But this time, our experience ended in tragedy. On the morning of July 29, while we were still out of town, we got a call from the facility: one of our cats, Azul, had escaped. We returned that same evening and went directly to the resort to search for him. We stayed until around 1am, calling out for him in the dark, in the rain, but had no luck. Just a few hours later, at 4:40am, someone posted on Facebook that they had found a cat on the side of the road, a mile away from the facility. It was Azul. He had been hit by a car. Cold, wet, scared, and alone, he made it as far as he could trying to come home. We are heartbroken. What’s most painful is knowing this was preventable. Here’s what Chelsea’s Pet Resort said in their own words: “At the time of Azul’s escape I, Chelsea, was managing walk-through after closing and overseeing the boarding area. After reviewing the circumstances, it appears that while Azul’s pen was shut, it was not properly secured due to a difficult latch. Additionally, a nearby window, intended to provide overnight airflow, was left cracked open and unfortunately did not have a screen installed.” An unlatched pen. An open, unscreened window. Oversights that should never happen in a facility trusted to keep animals safe. Since sharing our experience, others have reached out and told us that this is not the first time a cat has gone missing from this place. That’s alarming. Azul was a gentle, curious soul. He didn’t deserve this. We’re sharing this because no one should have to go through what we’re going through now. If you board your pets, ask hard questions. Insist on safety. It only takes one mistake, and for us, it cost a life. Rest in peace, Azul. You were so loved.
We’ve tried several boarders for our dogs over the years and Chelsea’s is by far the best in town and the only one we use now. Super friendly staff, convenient pick up and drop off, and dogs are well taken care of during their stay.
This place was wonderful! Our dog has anxiety and gets nervous at other boarding places but he came back so happy and excited :) I appreciate y’all so much and we will be back!
