Nice center, great for kids with activities on the grounds. May need advanced notice with schedule, I don't have kids. Camping sites. End of August, trail closed due to the expected salmon and bears. Enjoyed the trails which are nicely maintained with multiple viewing platforms and information sign posts. Five dollar day use parking fee.

Short drive from down town Anchorage is this amazing area with great well marked hiking trails, some of the most spectacular early morning photo taking and opportunities for wildlife encounter depending on the season.
The best thing to do for us during our 3 days visit to Anchorage.

Great place to hike.I recommend that you do not hike alone or if you do bear spray or dog many brown bears in the area. During the Salmon run they close the park to many bears. If it's your first time in the park and you have a little extra cash hire a guide for a couple of hours there very knowledgeable and give you great tips on how to stay safe. You will see most people go in groups. The parking lot is pretty safe if you leave valuables behind but always keep them hidden.
