Mike is a consummate professional with a wonderful sense of humor. I began visiting Art of Hair in early 2024 and trusted Mike to match my current color and give me a shorter hair cut, since at 75 I wanted a style that had easier upkeep. He did both. In fact, I feel my color is better than before. I just requested a slightly shorter style, and I'm extremely pleased with it.

Love love love Mike! Did some google searches several years ago because my hair needed help. He successfully color corrected and did a wonderful hair cut and I have been going to him ever since. He takes the time to discuss what it is you want and is honest about if its a good idea, if it will work with your hair and if the color works with your complexion, etc. Super knowledgeable! Highly recommend!

Mike is the hairstylist you’ve always wanted. Instead of dictating what he will do with your hair, he engages you with questions to understand how YOU feel and what YOUR preferences are. He provides thorough explanations and ensures that everything is agreed upon before starting the color or haircut. With a personable demeanor, intelligence, a pristine workspace, and an incredible music playlist, he creates an enjoyable experience. Don’t hesitate to give him a call; he truly excels in his craft!

I have had a nearly 10 year service history with Mike Bertish- the owner of this salon- who has cut my hair over this long time period. He calls his customers in the week before their appointment, and you have to return the call to confirm, or he will cancel your appt. I have no smart phone at this time, but have a landline. He did not call me this week (late December, I triple checked my Caller-ID), and we had a snowstorm and it was very cold (for Vancouver), and when I called his line, it had the disconnected beep-beep sound. I got to go home early on Thursday, December 30th and I had some important places to go, and after that I stopped by his place of business where he lives, a few hours after he closes (6:00 pm), because I was very concerned about his being in good health, with the snowstorm (very slippery) and the cold weather, etc., and rang his intercom buzzer. He has a two-way intercom with a light, so he can converse with you and see you from inside his business. He did not use the 2-way intercom, but instead came to the door and was visibly upset. I explained to him that I was confirming my appt. and was sorry if there was any inconvenience, and if he was ok. He told me he was very uncomfortable with this and so I confirmed my appt. and left. This bothered me afterward, in that I was concerned if there was something wrong, in that he didn't call me to confirm my appt.(he said he did), there was a snowstorm, and his phone number sounded disconnected when I called, and that he made me feel very uncomfortable about that. The next day (December 31st) was my appt. He made me wait in my car for 25 minutes and then brought me in to the shop, after he finished with his last customer. He then proceeded to tell me how he had felt so uncomfortable the night before, and that in 26 years in business no one had ever come over after hours to confirm an appt. He insisted that I did something very wrong and didn't consider my side of the story, or my concern for him, whom I thought was a friend. He then proceeded to inform me that he had consulted with 2 of his Psychiatry friends(!), and that they and he agreed that I have trouble with other peoples "ego boundaries" ! He then kept criticizing my character waiting for me to get a little upset, to stand up for myself a little, and when I mentioned the word "histrionics" (dramatics), that set him off, and he then said that he wouldn't cut my hair and then led me to the door, which we were sitting next to., further making me feel sad and betrayed, not to mention ruining my plans for New Years Eve, and having to look for another barber, after 10 years of his services. His provocations and rejection is extremely unprofessional, and since I'm human, hurts a lot, since we've been on very good terms for the last 10 years. I recommended a friend to him, but he only made one haircut visit to the shop, and I told Mike recently that I might be moving to Beaverton (maybe). Was this his way of saying goodbye? If you're ok with this kind of unprofessionalism and hurt that this behavior can cause, then please give him a try. But if you don't want this kind of emotional drag on your psyche - after 10 years of service - beware !Service: Haircut

Mike works very hard to deliver the style requested. He has a great wealth of information about appropriate products for a person's hair.
