I had a kitchen & dining room ceiling that were connected in one room. It needed scraping, they said it would all be scraped but then it was too much to do so they used kilz and mud & hit spots then and painted & finish coating. Made a mess but cleaned up the majority of it. I still had to wipe everything down from the sanding which produced a lot of dust & set off my smoke detector twice before dismantling it.It took them 3 days to do the work. To be professional painters they lack communication when it comes to scheduled times getting the job done.
