I had a solid doctor visit with Dr. Kuhn, who was thorough, but I was sent for an abdominal ultrasound a week later. My insurance quoted $1,200 for the procedure at Baylor Scott & White, with me covering about $500 after coverage. My girlfriend, who works in healthcare, thought that sounded steep. After some research, I found it was outrageously overpriced—borderline theft. The bulk of the cost was a $1,100 “hospital wing” fee tacked on by BSW.
