About Ashtanga Yoga Philadelphia
Ashtanga Yoga Philadelphia is a traditional Ashtanga Yoga Shala that offers a space for cultivating devotional, integrated practice, wellbeing, and community. The potent yoga practice connects students to deeper parts of themselves and towards their highest potential. The studio follows the traditional approach of passing down yoga practices person to person, where the teacher works individually with students to teach them a sequence of postures, breathing, gazing points, and connecting movements in a Mysore-style practice. This regular practice may unlock new understandings that lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life. The studio owner, Elizabeth, is an amazing and knowledgeable teacher who approaches her students with kindness and attends to the specific needs and practice of each individual. The studio is praised for its warm, inviting energy, beautiful practice space, and welcoming community. Elizabeth's expertise in Ashtanga Yoga and meditation philosophies inspires a meditative quality in the students as they move through their practice. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, Ashtanga Yoga Philadelphia is a rare gem where you can lay deep roots for a lifelong practice and feel part of a supportive community.
I've been practicing here for a little over 4 years. It's a sacred spot on the 3rd floor of a jewelers row walk up in center city Philadelphia. Elizabeth is a stellar teacher! Gentle, disciplined, intuitive, caring, very knowledgeable about the mechanics of the human body...she leads by example and is an incredibly authentic teacher. I've been taught at a pace that has allowed me to embed asana practice into my life routine. The community here is supportive and respectful- there is no sense of competition, no gossip, no favorites. There is a special reverence to this shala. One that is created by humility and a recognition that progress is an ongoing process.

I'm approaching old poses in different ways, while also learning new ones.Elizabeth has also taught me a lot...read full review
