Tl;Dr Dr Abraham claims to treat small mammals but she is incredibly misinformed about rats, arguably incorrect prescription medication, her bedside manner is atrocious and she is either unaware of Massachusetts regulations about written prescriptions or is willfully ignoring them.

    ---------
I brought one of my rats to Dr Abraham because my usual exotics vet didn't have an appointment for a few days and I knew she needed antibiotics. I had given her a small piece of dark chocolate to help with her breathing and Dr Abraham told me that I should never do that because it's very toxic. When I tried to tell her there's many studies showing it isn't, she got quite upset and stayed raising her voice.

She prescribed an antibiotic that is not suggested for use in juvenile rats so I said I would prefer something different. She asked me what and I offered up two options we've used successfully in the past. She explained they didn't carry either, and I told her that was fine, I'd be happy to take a written prescription. She refused, saying that they had been bought and they require all patients to use their online pharmacy, they didn't allow writing prescriptions. She went on to say delivery would take a week. I pushed again for a written prescription and she told me nowhere would fill it and she wouldn't provide one.

Massachusetts State code prohibits any vet from refusing to write a paper or electronic prescription for a reasonable medication so a patient can fill it at the pharmacy of their choice. I called the practice back after I confirmed this and again requested a written prescription. The front desk told me they'd let her know and she'd call me back. Days later I haven't heard anything. I took my rat to our usual vet who told me that the prescribed medication was a poor choice and prescribed one of the ones I requested of Dr Abraham.

I should have known better. I took another rat to Dr Abraham several years ago. She told me the rat probably had allergies and I should give her Benadryl if the week of medication she prescribed didn't work. The incorrect antibiotics didn't work to treat the incredibly common upper respiratory infection she had and my pet died a horrible death, suffocating from the untreated pneumonia that developed.

This place may be fine for cats and dogs, but it's been awful for me and my rats.

I’ve been consistently very happy with the care my dog has received over the years at AFPH. He’s 9 now, and most care has been preventative up until recently that he had dental issues that required extraction. The veterinary care was successful, and communicated well with me what was going on. Additionally, the staff there has been nothing short of excellent. They are warm and welcoming, as well as responsive to inquiries and appointment scheduling.

My wife and I were recommended by some good friends Of Ours to take Scrappy a dog to them for pet care. Since we have been going there, we’ve had nothing but the most wonderful experience with every Office staff member such as Christine Taylor, Britney Adam Dallas I believe his name is he’s a beautiful guy. Also, all the vet techs such as Liam, Grace and all the others. All the veterinarian doctors are fantastic there because what we like about all of them they really do care about every Pet that walks in there. They also care about the owners.. They treat every pet owner including the pets with the utmost respect. We do trust them to take very good care of scrappy our dog. Also, as a veteran, they will say thank you for serving, which means a lot to me. They also offer veteran discounts, no matter what the problem is no matter how small it may seem since we’ve only own scrap for a year and a half they’re never too busy to answer our questions or they say don’t worry about things because we’re gonna take good care of your dog scrappy Doo even scrappy loves going to them so he’s in good hands with this hospital and as My wife and I do say they are all awesome.
