I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I was provided by Purdue Small Animal Hospital’s internal medicine department on January 8th, 2026.

My dog, Delilah had been a patient both with internal medicine, and neurology, for over six years. On January 8th, Delilah had an abdominal ultrasound scheduled due to her liver enzymes being elevated, and it was going to be a determining factor as to whether it would be time to let her go.

When I arrived, the appointment was horrible. I was told the ultrasound would not be happening, even though it had been schedule, and I drove over an hour to get there. After heavily advocating for my dog, a spot was opened up to perform the ultrasound.

Then, when it was over, nobody came to tell me she was ready despite me telling them I was still in the lobby upon receiving the call I could get her in 20 minutes. The front desk desk was extremely rude, saying they didn’t think I was there.

Dr. Ghahari was extremely rude, did not make me feel heard, and appeared extremely ill-prepared because she continued to interrupt me and challenge me when I explained concerns over her treatment options. I left feeling extremely unheard and guilty, as if I was the was reason Delilah was not doing well.

The next day, after speaking with her primary vet, I made the painful choice to euthanize Delilah. The following Wednesday, Dr. Ghahari called me, asking if Delilah died from a seizure.

That prompted me to email the director of hospital operations, Joey Goodyard, as well as the senior clinician, and an advocate in the complains department, Leah Vargas. There was little to no transparency, the senior clinician explained some things to help me get a better understanding of the treatment Delilah received, but made excuses about language barriers being an issue.

Today they offered me the most insulting settlement ever, of $150, of that $71.50 will be taken to cover part of the bill I was charged after the appointment was over, despite it being paid in full.

Purdue Small Animal hospital reduced my dog’s value down to $78.50 after I spent over $30,000 there, and they treated me horribly. I am extremely disappointed and insulted.

I honestly was happy with Purdue. My Chloe was only 2 when I had to take her there. She was there a week and diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis. Dr Mehra and the Neurology team did a wonderful job. Had She not been sent there, she may not be here today. Almost six years later shes had no relapses. Only negative, if any is the expense, but in the end she's here and living her best life. Thank you so much for saving my girl.

Over the past 2 weeks, two animals that I know , were seen at this hospital. A cat who I was getting close to. A dog who I loved very much. It was my son and Daughter n laws dog. The one that went first, was the cat. It was obvious it probably would not make it. But, not certain. The staff looked at it and held it and than said, without payment we can't actually help you. So, around 200 dollars to be told that for another 4 to 5,000 dollars they could see what was goin̈g on. This week the family dog was taken in. Again, would not even look at him til money up front. Than, to be told for 10,000 dollars we can prolong life maybe a couple of months. I am sorry but this place gets so many people that come here that it really does not care. There is something not quite right about this. If I am wrong, great. But, if I am right about something not quite right about the services , one day it will be known. Until than, we need more places to open for animals to go to.

I can only speak to the quality of the ER.

I brought my beloved 10yo dog to them on Black Friday 2025 with symptoms of shock. They were able to get him back immediately and diagnose him. We ended up needing to have him euthanized. They were incredibly compassionate, allowing us to sit with him for as long as we wanted, both before and after his passing. We paid $700 thinking for sure that there would be an extra charge because we asked for his nose print, his paw print, and to be cremated, in addition to the time of the professionals and the euthanasia medication. I also expected his ashes to come to me in a plastic bag or container. When we were contacted to pick his ashes up, they came in a carved wooden box so beautiful that we were both immediately sobbing. There is also a name plate that can be affixed to the wooden box. His paw print was done in air dry clay and his nose print was ink on paper.

While I realize from reading reviews that not everyone has had a stellar experience here, my family was so grateful for the experience we had at their ER facility. The money that we paid was worth it and fair to treat my gravely ill dog, whom I loved very much.

This is for their billing only, we paid over 4k on our little dog, paid in full, then get a bill for 187.00 we dont have the money to pay in full, so I made pmts, then they charge 25.00 for late fee, that is nervy of them after spending so much more, when I called to waive the late fee, was told flat out NO. I am not even sure they actually did what we were billed for.

I am adding to my experience, we took our dog in to see a kidney specialist to have a kidney biopsy done, we get there the so called specialist was young and had no clue as to what was going on, she should not be allowed to practice without supervision, she did not do a kidney biopsy, in which needed to be done, bc we still have no clue why our dog has kidney disease, all was done was more lab work, and referred us to a website to help with her diet, in which the website needs the doctor to give them the ok to proceed, in which has been 2 weeks and she has not done anything. Spending another 700 for the same thing our family vet has done is BS, NOT TO MENTION OUR FAMILY VET CALLED IN ADVANCE, TO GET THE BIOPSY DONE, SHOULD HAVE HAD NOTES! WE WILL NEVER BE BACK. IF ANYONE READING THIS FROM PURDUE, CAN CALL ME TO DISCUSS THIS!!!!!

tldr: vet techs and dr Dylan are very competent and professional, but it's 170 to 500 for an emergency visit
went in for an emergency with a cat, and got seen pretty quickly. it took like 5 minutes.the vet techs at the front were really speedy with reception, and dr. Dylan explained what was up with our cat very well. it was really expensive though. it was 170 for the check up and 500 if there was actually something wrong. we had a dose of anti nausea medicine that was only 25 bucks though.
if your small animal means something to you and you have an emergency, don't hesitate to come here.

Purdue absolutely screwed us over. I took ALL THREE of my dogs in July for their vaccines. Same appointment, same shots. THE NIGHT BEFORE we are supposed to leave for the holidays, we find out that they FAILED to give ONE of my dogs bordetella. Which means she can't go to the boarder in the morning. I took her to the emergency facility, and the receptionists were sympathetic and as confused as we were as to how Purdue had screwed this up, but the vet on duty absolutely refused to rectify the situation, even though he has zero patients waiting. I am beyond livid.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the oncology team at Purdue Animal Hospital. We worked with several doctors throughout our experience, and every one of them was exceptional, but we spent the most time with Dr. Nelson, who performed an arduous surgery locating cancer and removing it, and then Dr. Midkiff, who guided us compassionately through a detailed chemo treatment plan. They truly have made a difference for us and more importantly, our Winston.

Dr. Midkiff and the entire staff were incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and most importantly compassionate and kind during a very difficult time. When your pet is sick, that level of empathy and understanding means everything. They took the time to explain each step of the process clearly and made sure we always felt supported and cared for. The communication was incredible as well to let us know how our dog was doing with each step.

The oncology treatment my dog received was top-notch, and thanks to their expertise and dedication, my dog is able to go on and live a healthy, fulfilling life. I am deeply grateful for the care we received and would highly recommend the Purdue Animal Hospital oncology team to anyone in need of specialized care for their pet.

My experience has been back and fourth visits, multiple vets, poor communication, and thousands of dollars.

While I was expecting the diagnosis and treatment to be expensive, the amount of miss communication and pointless visits is absurd. Most recently the emergency room sent me to internal medicine because they did not feel comfortable prescribing any medication to treat his symptoms. Upon arriving at internal medicine they tell me they are ready to do a CT scan which was not mentioned to me until that visit. I told them I would need to get pre-approval from my pet insurance first since it is a $2500-$3500 charge.

One week later I got pre-approval and the vet told me to call the front desk to schedule the CT scan. I called and scheduled the CT Scan and they tell me to not feed him 24hr prior to visit. We show up for the scan and I sit in a waiting room for a hour and half. A new vet walks in and tells me that he would need to stay overnight and that the scan would have to take place the next day. My dog who has a diet restriction now will have to be fed whatever food they have (didn’t tell me) and I will have to come back the next day.

I’ve asked for records to be emailed multiple times for me to submit to insurance and haven’t received anything. I know my email is correct because I’ve gotten emails from my initial visits months ago.

At this point, I wish I would have just rolled the dice with giving him steroids to help his symptoms instead of putting thousands of dollars into multiple visits, multiple Purdue vets, and multiple trips. All for them to keep telling me they want to do more test before any treatment.

If you dog is sick, I’d almost recommend trying treatment without diagnosis since the path to diagnosis is clearly poor communication, pointless visits, and potentially no answers.

We took our 14 month old German Shepherd to the Purdue Small Animal Hospital after some bouts of vomiting and bloody diarrhea. After his exam, we spoke in-depth with Dr. Zhou who was welcoming of questions and allowed us to choose our pup’s course of care with her recommendations in mind. A few hours later, he was released with medication. Throughout the entire process, the vet hospital was very communicative and made it apparent that our pup’s wellbeing was at the forefront—no unnecessary testing or exams that made him uncomfortable. In comparison to other local emergency vet services, the care here was top tier for a reasonable price—we had a similar issue with our dog at the beginning of the year and were charged almost double for the same tests + scans at another clinic. I would recommend Purdue Small Animal Hospital any time!
