I drive an hour from Waimea every three months to get my haircut here. I have been doing this for the past 5 years, and for good reason! I have never waited more than 15 minutes and am always very happy with the entire experience. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the vibe is chill and the cut is professional and perfect. I pay $30 - $35 and always leave $50 because I am so happy with the service. Don't trust the low star reviews as I suspect they are written by owners of other barber shops. I get a perfect fade from skin to finger length cut at the top.

Big island barbershop is great if you have up-to 4 hours to set aside for a haircut. On a busy day you will show up, sign in, wait, and the host boy will tell you there is 4 people ahead of you, if you actually take the time to wait and watch, you will see 6-8 people come in before the host boy will even make eye contact with you. -- there's no follow up with wait times, or who is next etc, because their waitlist is by PREFERENCE. I arrived at 8am to beat the crowd. You can now buy a prepaid three haircut VIP membership. So, you can go in front of the line and not wait in line. I will do it the next time we're back in Kona!I had a good cut for once. No problem. Short wait. Check them out!
