The office staff is great, but I’m increasingly concerned about the constant turnover in doctors. Today I saw a new veterinarian and was very disappointed with the experience.
I’ve been bringing my dog here for four years, and suddenly he now requires trazodone just to be seen. He was taken to the back for less than five minutes before medication was recommended.
I was surprised, as I’ve always believed that handling animals with mild anxiety is a core skill of veterinary medicine — especially in a clinic with multiple assistants available to help comfort and restrain safely when needed.
I’ve had a similar experience with grooming here in the past, where sedation was required for my larger dog. After switching groomers, sedation was no longer necessary.
I’m disappointed to see a pattern of medication being used as a first step rather than hands-on handling and individualized care. Clients should be aware of this approach when choosing a provider.
I’ve also had repeated issues over the years with procedures not being followed as agreed. In one case, a laser procedure was selected and signed for but ultimately not used, resulting in a more difficult recovery. Combined with other procedural mix-ups, this has significantly impacted my trust in the consistency of care.

I took my fur baby, Hercules to The Ark today for his yearly exam, vaccinations, skin allergy, toenail clipping and bath and was so impressed with the way they all handled him. He has always had major anxiety when going to the vet. Today he was calm and happy, all because the team made him feel relaxed by petting him and talking sweetly to him. They are all professionals and truly care about each pet. Dr. Lowe, Holly, Angela and the vet techs and front office ladies are the best and I'm very grateful for them!!

We absolutely love this office for our fur kids! Dr McFarland and all the staff take as much time as we need every visit to ensure that we feel informed and comfortable with the treatment options we were provided. I can not say enough good about this office and staff! They are Godsent for sure!

The Ark Animal Hospital staff was amazing (they were so kind for a difficult situation involving my mother and her dogs). They were able to get me in same day and help my mom's pup get the care she needed. Sweetie, her dog, is very timid (she was a rescue) and one of the staff (I will update once I get the name when we go for our follow up) was able to get lots of licks before we left (I was really impressed with how comfortable and kind they were). I would recommend Ark to any of my friends or family looking for a local Vet in the Hiram/Dallas area!

Maggie (2y3m) is a ball of energy and the staff is able to navigate her with relative ease and they have patience with her which is a blessing. I am thankful for how well they handle my almost 80lb baby.
As for my old girl, Sadie Mae (11y6m), they are gentle with her and take time to evaluate her to ensure her health remains good.
