PT Solutions Plant City I came to PT Solutions in Plant City for rehab after a total knee replacement. My desire was to be able to move without pain, walk without limping, and demonstrate good body mechanics so I didn’t lumber through life like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The staff helped me meet and exceed all those goals. Every week there was a new victory: walking without a cane, getting in and out of a vehicle without help, going into a public restroom without panic when there was no handicap stall with grab bars! The process was slow and sometime painful. Getting a 72 year old body back into motion was like reclaiming a vintage automobile. Installing a few new parts was just the beginning. Fix one thing and something else needs a tune-up. Now the knee doesn’t hurt but it needs to bend, and then it needs to hold weight, and then hips and ankles, and feet all have to work…at the same time! I had a team of professionals who knew how to use every tool in the tool box to get the old jalopy back on the road, and they had a LOT of tools! Weights, steps, balls, bars, foam mats, pulleys, bikes, treadmills. Great variety—every day was different. They assess your attitude adjust the game plan in case you are feeling wimpy and then 40 minutes later you are still exhausted. Such gentle inquisitors: they introduce pain that make you want to swear and then so politely ask, “Would you like some water?” The results I gained would not have been possible on my own. 1. I don’t have the array of equipment. 2. If I had the equipment, I wouldn’t have the knowledge to use it. (What do you mean walk backwards on the treadmill???? Have you lost your mind??? 3. I wouldn’t have had the determination. On bad days, I told myself all I had to do was get in the car and get there. From that point on someone shared the responsibility for motivation. While it is very true that you can only get out of therapy what you put into it, it is also valid that the team support of creative professionals who customize every session to your current mindset and long-term goals is the most powerful way to regain your mobility and your life. My thanks are unending, but I will stop writing and go walking. Correction, it is Tuesday and that’s line dancing day!
