I’ve known Dr. Joe Downer since we were kids, and I’ve had the opportunity to watch both him and his clinical expertise in pain management grow over the years. He is an outstanding practitioner.
Dr. Joe has helped me tremendously with chronic low back pain, disc-related back pain, and an old disc injury that had caused long-standing discomfort. He also successfully treated my elbow pain, inflammation, seasonal allergies, and silent reflux using a comprehensive, root-cause approach.
When my medical doctor recommended long-term PPI medication, Dr. Joe instead focused on natural pain relief and digestive support, guiding me with specific supplements, herbs, and anti-inflammatory foods to correct the underlying issue rather than mask symptoms
In addition to acupuncture, he provided corrective exercises and movement therapy to support my back pain recovery and elbow injury rehabilitation, which helped reduce pain and improve function long-term.

I’ve been dealing with chronic plantar fasciitis for over two years, and Stratford Acupuncture & Nutritional Wellness Center is the first place where I experienced real, lasting relief.
Before coming here, I had tried everything. I was in a walking boot for nearly a year, had cortisone injections, shockwave and stem wave treatments, physical therapy, and even trigger point dry needling with a PT. I also saw multiple MDs and chiropractors. Nothing worked, and the pain was completely controlling my day-to-day life.
When I saw Dr. Joe, he immediately explained that my foot pain was likely being driven by dysfunction higher up — especially in my calf muscles — rather than just treating the foot itself. He treated specific motor points in my calf, and when I got off the table, I honestly couldn’t believe it — about 90% of my pain was gone immediately.
By the third treatment, the pain I had been dealing with for years — and that MDs, PTs, and DCs couldn’t manage — was completely gone.
This clinic is clearly run as a medical acupuncture practice, not a spa, and I appreciate that. The care is focused, professional, and results-driven. The office is clean, organized, and efficient, and Dr. Joe takes the time to assess what’s actually causing the problem instead of just treating symptoms.
If you’re dealing with chronic pain and feel like you’ve “tried everything,” I can’t recommend this place highly enough. This treatment genuinely gave me my life back.

First visit went fine, second visit was my last. Don’t purchase a package until you have more than one session. I’ve been doing acupuncture for over 10 years elsewhere and this visit was strange from the start but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. Booked online and appointment was never confirmed, I had to call and confirm. There is no designated front desk person, just the acupuncturist and while the first visit went smoothish, the second he was overbooked and in a rush. My occipital region immediately hurt badly when he placed the needle. It was definitely too deep, and then again too deep on another area. I was in pain for weeks all over. It was only on the second visit did I realize he doesn’t clean the skin area before placing a needle, and is running room to room touching other people. No hand sanitizer in between rooms, and certainly didn’t smell like soap or hand sanitizer before touching me. Unfortunately I pre-paid for a 10 session package and am out $1,000 but something is off with this place. It’s stressful and not calming. It’s honestly setup like a crowded doctors office instead of an actual calm acupuncture setting. This is also a pseudonym, so my “account” won’t be found in your records…

I’m so appreciative to have found this office. From the moment I called I felt that this was the practice for me. I was recently diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, and Elizabeth’s welcoming voice gave me so much hope. When I arrived, I felt cared for & knew I was in the right place. From the kind and welcoming greeting- to the gentle inviting waiting room; from the very start you are encouraged to relax here. The PMF table is particularly amazing and so good for aches and pains. I'm amazed every time I use it how great my body, particularly parts that hurt going in, feels after. And then there's the acupuncture. Which if you're going for stress and anxiety management, talk about worth it. Joe is so professional and knows what he's doing.
