Dr. Harner was my GP for a few years when I lived in Sonoma County. All was fine until I came in to see him because my left foot and ankle had become dramatically swollen. Dr. Harner led me to believe there was nothing to worry about. Turns out a swollen foot is a symptom of deep vein thrombosis: a blood clot in the calf. Sure enough, a couple weeks later the blood clot moved into my lungs, and I was hospitalized with a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Dr. Harner should have recognized I was in danger; he could have at least sent me to a specialist for another opinion, as there was clearly something wrong. I feel lucky to be alive.
