The ballroom is big! It's welcoming for college students and families because it is in an arts center rather than a bar. Also, it is volunteer-run, with plenty of opportunities to volunteer for free admission. I have been volunteering with them for over four years.

Fun place to learn to swing dance! They give lessons, then have three hours of social dancing time afterwards! The one thing to keep in mind is parking, which can be tricky to find the first time. Give yourself a few extra minutes for that, and check the website for details on overflow parking, if needed.

I love swing dancing! DSDS is a volunteer-run organization, and they host dances + workshops ("Swing on a String") 3 Saturday evenings a month at the Sammons Center for the Arts. With a year membership ($15 for students!!), you get free intermediate workshops (6-8pm) and a discounted entry to the social dance at 9pm. It's been totally worth it. The instructors are fabulous, and I've learned fun lindy moves. Each week there may be different instructors, and the month's dance for the workshop also changes (lindy, charleston, balboa). There's a beginner lesson at 8pm for anyone new to east coast swing so you're ready to go for the social... read full review
