“Dr. Hartzell is very thorough and compassionate in her exams and surgery. However, I am adding that I think it is time for them to loosen their mask policy. Over this past year I have been seen by many different medical facilities and some places state that it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask. Others state still mandatory, however once inside and in the room with the doctors, they said I could remove my mask. The masks do not prevent the spread of COVID! Being vaccinated doesn’t prevent COVID or stop you from spreading the disease. Can we just get back to living our lives normally again? Plus mask wearing has increased eye infections.“

“I am a new user of hearing aids. I was apprehensive when I began the process but Dottie Kardos made it an easy transition. She took several hours with me assuring me that I was doing the right thing and helping me to make the decision that the Starkey Genesis was the best product for me. I have been wearing my new hearing aids for four months and am amazed at the difference in my hearing. Dottie continues to be my best cheerleader making herself available to answer questions, scheduling regular follow up appointment, continuing to encourage me and taking time to support this process.“

“I was taken care of by Barb to order a new pair of Rx glasses and my first pair of Rx sunglasses. The glasses took a few weeks to arrive because the frame I chose was on back order. Those look and fit great. The sunglasses I ordered were Ray Ban official frames and lenses. I have had them sent back three times now because the Ray Ban lab messed up my prescription twice and then had an issue with the polarization being messed up on one lens to the point that I couldn't see clearly out of the left lens. Barb has been diligent in keeping me updated through the process and sending emails to her manager in regards to the QC issues coming from the lab. We are about 2 months into this process of trying to get my sunglasses right after many attempts and the lab continuing to make mistakes. I will likely never order anything from the Ray Ban lab again due to their lack of QC and laziness in reading the paperwork for my glasses that I spent over $400 for. Despite all of the headaches, Barb has been wonderful in the process and she is very pleasant in person and over the phone. I am hoping that this will be the last time the lenses need to be sent back.“
“Right from the start the women at the office were very friendly and efficient. The young woman who walked me through the process of interviewing and testing was thorough, kind and knowledgeable. I wish I knew her name to give her a shout out. The Dr did a complete exam and in the end discovered that I didn't need cataract surgery even though the macular Dr. said I did. I appreciate a Dr. who doesn't do surgery just to make money. Even the woman who took my credit card to pay was friendly and raised her eyebrows and said, "No surgery!?". “We have entrusted our vision care needs to Dr. Stegura and Dr. Brent for over two decades. My wife and I have had multiple surgeries and everything has gone incredibly well. The prep staff at the Hartzdale location do their jobs very well. My only gripe - and it needs attention - is poor communications by administrative staff. Things happen - emergencies that take priority - that disrupt the flow of scheduled appointments, BUT, the staff needs to inform and communicate to waiting patients there will be delays and offer rescheduling. A waiting post-op patient should not sit in the waiting room for 70 minutes after checking in and 55 minutes after the scheduled appointment time, and then have to return to the counter to ask what is going on, to be informed of an near hour long back up. That's bad office management. Communicate, communicate, communicate. That said, it was one time, and forgiveness is better than holding ill feeling. The Shipoke staff, on the other hand, is EPIC. I may choose to go to this office from now on. BOTTOM LINE: I was the best, most highly experienced doctors working on my eyes, and that's what we have with Dr. Stegura and Dr. Brent. We will look past the office management challenges.“
