Our HVAC fan motor in our condo was squealing so I went online and discovered it was due to worn out ball bearings. I installed a new HVAC fan motor from recommendations from a tech at Grainger after sending pics and diagrams so he could be sure to recommend the right one. After I installed it it wasn't putting out the capacity the original motor did so I called another tech at Grainger and after seeing pics and diagrams he told me to rewire it and it then stopped working. I then called an electrician who said i should call the manufacturer of the original fan motor (International Environmental Corps) and I was advised by Jose there to get their same exact motor from Grainger which they had in stock. After a week of phone calls to many HVAC companies we finally got a guy from Peak Heating and Air. The new motor from IEC was installed by Pete with no problems. He only charged us half the price ($160) because I had everything he needed and all he had to do was take out the motor I had installed from Grainger and put in the new one from IEC (purchased at Grainger) and wire it up. It's now working fine. Update: I found out from Stephen, the last Grainger tech I was working with (there were several over the course of two weeks) that the motor I installed was most likely overwound or defective and it stopped working / burnt out because of this but initially I should have been recommended the exact same motor that was installed with the unit which cost a few hundred more than was originally recommended. I guess the original tech at Grainger I talked to was trying to save me money but it turned out to be more costly in the end because I had to get an HVAC person out to see what the problem was. Although they did advise the wrong motor what I did like about this company was that they had tech guys to walk me through the process of installing and rewiring over the phone. As I'm not an electrician I found their willingness to do this a great help to try and me save money. Unfortunately, one techs advice was wrong and I still had to call out an HVAC person to make sure everything was ok.
