I'd give it zero stars if I could. Alexian Brothers Hospital has gone down hill since the change to Ascension. Care in the ER is a joke. Had my over 100 year old mom there, ( who was a HUGE donor to the hospital), and she was neglected. She was diabetic and hadn't eaten in over 12 hours in the ER, I requested food for her and was told it would come- it never did. I asked NUMEROUS ER employees all told me the same thing but no action. I had to get her food from the cafeteria myself. I was encouraged to sign a DNR for her. She went in for a UTI and was told she had COVID- She had been vaxed twice and boosted twice and had NO covid symptoms. I requested a retest was told they wouldn't do it. They gave her Remdesivir- they said was protocol for COVID despite my concerns about it causing kidney failure. She started going downhill quickly after the Remdesivir and I told the doctor NO more of the medication. That doctor then stopped seeing her and another doctor replaced her. I was then instructed to take her home and put her in hospice that she could no longer stay at the hospital. She suffered failure and died not long afterwards. Just recently a friend was also in the ABMC ER and was treated likewise. So sad ABMC used to be a quality caring hospital which is why Mom made such large donations. If they treat their "valued" donors this way I'd hate to see how others are treated. Go elsewhere.
No beds, no staff nor doctors. Extremely sick people of all ages waiting in uncomfortable chairs for over 6 hours when they should be lying down and getting fluids and at least a little attention. Even people arriving in an ambulance were simply parked in a wheelchair. Staff Nurse told me she put in her resignation; since Ascension took over, it's profit before people. The facility itself must be from the 1980; hopelessly outdated and not the cleanest. I am appalled by the "service" in one of the better Northwestern Suburbs!
My friend went to the ER and upon arrival the room was filthy, messy, and just outright gross. After being in excruciating pain for 5 hours, they finally got a bed and when they got in the room they didn't even meet with a doctor the whole night. To make matters worst they barely got any pain medication despite being in intense pain. The only time they saw the doctors is when they were disagreeing on the proper procedure to treat them. Then they carried on with a procedure despite the disagreement, with a plan that wouldn't even work and would result in a hospital transfer to finally get some competent help. If you value your health whatsoever, do not touch this hospital with a ten foot pole. You would have better luck winning the lottery than getting good quality medical help here.
