This place is incredible! The tombstones and graves are awe inspiring. Would love to go and spend more time there. My friend and I didn't do a tour, we just walked around, and it was great. BUT there are somethings to be aware of: 1) it's a big place, so if you're walking wear comfy shoes and allow for ample time so you don't feel rushed. 2) if you're not doing a tour, go ahead and buy the map at the entrance. It's very helpful and very informative. Plus, it makes a great keepsake. 3) last but the most important the NO SEE-UMS ARE NO JOKE. The cemetery is huge, and exactly the mix of gothic creepy and majesty you would want. The core older part is definitely the most visually stunning, dripping in Spanish moss and populated with old and weathered gravestones.
It's worth doing some homework and having the official map before you go to bring some of the stories to life and understand who is buried where and the significance of some points. It's also a beautifully rendered map in 3D which makes it easy to get around.

Not on a tour, visited our family plot. My Father, Grandmother and Great Aunt are buried in our family plot. The one remaining space will one day (not too soon I hope) belong to me as the youngest Grandkid (# 36). I'm now 89 years old. Would definitely recommend any of the tours.
